International Adoption

Colorado International Adoption Lawyer

Intl Adopt3 If you are considering adopting a child from another country, or are already involved in an international adoption, turn to us at The Law Office of Seth A. Grob in Evergreen. We have extensive adoption experience, having handled over 700 international and domestic adoptions of all types.

Our involvement in the international adoption process can begin as soon as you begin to consider adopting a child from another country. We meet with clients to provide information to them; discuss pros and cons of international adoption; provide an outline of the legal processes, the risks and the expenses. Once our clients have this information, we work with them to help them determine if going forward with an international adoption is still in their best interests and is what they want to do.

If a family does decide to go forward with an international adoption, we can help identify an appropriate and accredited agency. We will also review and negotiate the agency contract on behalf of our clients to ensure the clients' interests are protected.

In April of 2008, the United States became a signatory to the Hague Adoption Convention. All signatory nations must adhere to the standards created by The Hague Adoption Convention. Children from these countries are afforded greater protection throughout the adoption process. We are familiar with how the Hague Adoption Convention applies and how it may affect your situation. Our firm can also help you find an adoption agency that is an accredited Hague agency when working through a country that has signed the Hague Adoption Convention.

  • When a child is adopted abroad from a non-Hague country, we can help clients pursue and domesticate the foreign decree in Colorado, prepare the certificate of foreign birth and attain a new Social Security card for the child.
  • When a child is not adopted abroad, they must be brought into this country on an IR4 visa. We can assist with any additional immigration and adoption matters that may result.

Some children in the U.S. are without any legal status or have a temporary status. In this situation, we can help adoptive families petition for special immigrant juvenile status, obtain permanent residency for the child and then proceed with a domestic adoption.
